The Porsche 928 was the company’s first production car with a V-8 engine and the only coupe powered by a front-mounted V-8 as of today. Developed in the 1970s as a replacement of the 911, the 928 was eventually sold alongside the rear-engine sports car. Production lasted from 1977 until 1995. Porsche’s only luxury grand tourer up to date, the 928 was sold in various configurations. In addition to the base model, offered an S variant and later on changed the badge to the 928 S4. Much like the Cayenne SUV, the Panamera shares styling cues with the iconic 911, which enables it to stay true to the brand’s heritage, despite being a significant departure from Porsche’s sports car roots. Initially criticized by purists for straying off the company’s path, the Panamera followed in the footsteps of the Cayenne and became a popular choice with luxury car enthusiasts. The sedan carried over unchanged until 2013 when it received a facelift that included minor design changes, a new twin-turbo engine and hybrid model, and a long-wheelbase version.

Ever since the Panamera hit the market there were rumors that Porsche is looking to expand the lineup with several body styles, including a shooting brake and a coupe. While the shooting brake has already been previewed by a concept car and spotted testing as a prototype, the Germans made no official statements about the two-door. Come 2016 and our trusty paparazzi caught an awkward Panamera test car on the move and we might finally have proof that Porsche is indeed looking to launch a large luxury coupe.

Details are still under wraps and some say that these awkward looking prototypes might be mules for the upcoming Continental GT, which will share underpinnings with the second-generation Panamera, but we think is pulling the trigger on a coupe that will essentially revive the 928. Keep reading to find out more about what it may bring to the table, and stay tuned for updates. Updated: Based on the recent spy shots, we decided to create a rendering for the upcoming Panamera Coupe. Let us know what do you think about it in the comments section below. Porsche’s future looks quite promising – according to its CEO, Matthias Mueller, at least – as it plans to expand its lineup even further. In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Mueller announced that the company plans to expand by at least four new models by 2018, with the first two to arrive being the 918 Spyder and the Macan.

One of the remaining two is a new sports car — rumored to be called 961 — slotted between the 911 and 918 Spyder. The final new model will be a new sedan that is smaller than the Panamera. A final decision on the new sports sedan will be made by the end of 2013, but, if approved, it will be built on the Volkswagen Group’s MMB architecture, which will also be used for next-generation Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8. As for the baby-Panamera, Mueller confirmed that it will target models like BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The next-generation Panamera will also see a few more derivatives, including a coupe defined as a successor for the famous Porsche 928. Neither of the latter two models are close to production – neither is approved, actually – but stay tuned and we’ll bring you all of the information on these potential models as soon as we get it.

Supercars are our bread and butter. They are not only super-fast, but they also look amazing and are very rare. With all of those awesome features also comes a super price. This means that the normal person that reads about them can’t pull off the kind of financial gymnastics to afford one. For these people (us included), we have a special list of sports cars that you can typically find for $9,999 or less, making them an obtainable goal. This may require dipping back a few years, but you’ll still get yourself a nice car that is both quick and agile. Sure, it may not have fancy leather, a killer stereo system, navigation, Bluetooth, or any other modern features, but you will get yourself a true sports car.

There are literally thousands of cars we can choose from in this group, so we have to make some tough decisions on who gets in and who’s left out. Click past the jump to read our complete list and see where we rank each car. Automakers usually take great pride in unveiling concept cars and while most of them don’t even see the light of production, they make for interesting talking points on what kind of car they could’ve been if they were produced en masse.

Very rarely do you see a concept version get sent back under the covers without being seen by the public for the next 25 years. But that’s exactly what happened last weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance when brought out what can only be described as the evolutionary concept predecessor of the Panamera, the 928 H50 Concept. It must be noted that the 928 H50 Concept bears a striking similarity to the 928s that were produced from 1978 to 1995.

The overall profile is similar, including the long, sliding hood that harkens back to the aesthetic profile of the 928. There are some awkward lines in there and the front-rear balance appears to be skewed to the former, but for all of its resemblance to the old 928, the 928 H50 Concept has one thing the other doesn’t have: two extra doors. Continued after the jump.

We pretty much just finished the Museum Secrets Part One video and Porsche has already graced us with part two of this awesome series. The Museum Secrets series is outlining the new storage facility for the Porsche Museum and also showing us a glimpse of some of the most awesome cars that pass through the museum. Part One focused mainly on the storage facility and Porsche’s overall history, then showed us just one car, which was the first ever 911 Turbo.

Part two, thankfully, focuses a lot more on the storage facilities contents – a ton of rare Porsches. The guys at Porsche outlined seven cars for us, some of which we never knew even existed. The video’s pretty sweet and the cars are absolutely awesome, so check out the video. If you would like a quick peak at what’s in the video, click past the jump and you’ll see our quick summary on each car shown.

Way back in 1983, we all knew and loved a far less creepy and odd-acting Tom Cruise, who was best known for movies like 'Top Gun' and 'Risky Business,' and less known for being love-drunk crazy on the Oprah Winfrey Show. In the 1983 Warner Brothers’ classic, “Risky Business,” Tom Cruise’s character, Joel Goodsen, drove a gold-colored Porsche 928. Now the Profiles in History auction group is offering up the car that Cruise drove on the set for auction.

Actually, there were three cars driven on set, but this 1979 928 saw far more screen time and seat time with Cruise than the other two drive cars. We know that the 1979 928 is one of the least desirable Porsches ever built, falling just short in undesirability to the 924, but c’mon, Tom – freaking – Cruise learned how to drive a stick shift in this car. So, how has this car held up after Cruise was finished burning up, err, learning to use the clutch? What is a car like this selling for?

Is it really worth my money? For the answers to these questions and more, you’ll have to click past the jump to read our review.

October 5, 2011 was a very sad day for the American computer industry: Steve Jobs - the creator of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series - passed away after losing his battle with a rare pancreatic cancer. As one of the few, true innovators of our time, Jobs took his knowledge and creativity and built up a company that is now worth about $1 trillion.

Steve Jobs did many great things for the technological world, so as homage to a great man, we thought it would be interesting to talk a little about one of his first projects. You see, the first Macintosh computer Jobs designed was actually influenced by his Porsche 928. Andy Hertzfeld, a member of the original Apple development team, recalls the discussion in March 1981 during a late night at the office.

'It’s got to be different, different from everything else.' Said Jobs to James Ferris, Apple’s director of Creative Services. “For some reason, they were talking about cars,” Hertzfeld recalls.

'We need it to have a classic look, that won’t go out of style, like the Volkswagen Beetle', I heard Steve tell James. 'No, that’s not right.' , James replied. 'The lines should be voluptuous, like a Ferrari.” 'Not a Ferrari, that’s not right either', Steve responded, apparently excited by the car comparison. 'It should be more like a Porsche!'

Referring to his Porsche 928. “I thought it was kind of pompous to compare computers with sports cars, even metaphorically. But I was impressed with Steve’s passion for elegance in the industrial design and his powers of discrimination continually amazed me as the design took shape.” Hertzfeld said. The design for the first Mac was released in February 1982. Jobs had worked tirelessly, attempting to produce the best Porsche-like design for the computer. The world has lost a true inspiration. Steve Jobs will be missed.

We don’t know much in the way of pegging design sketches for future vehicles, but with persistent rumors of a new in the horizon, a lot of people are becoming more and more inclined to believe that this sketch drawing - that can be found on the Consulting website - may be more than just a website design, but, in fact, a future vehicle that Porsche already has baking in the oven. Unfortunately, we hate to be the bearer of bad news because this sketch is nothing more than just one of hundreds, maybe even thousands, of sketch designs to come out of Stuttgart. And just because they’re sketches, it doesn’t mean that Porsche is cooking up something that none of us know about, but hey, there’s no crime in day dreaming, right? The classic 928 was powered by a 4.5 liter 16-valve V8 engine that delivered a total of 345 HP. This was just enough to sprint the car from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 171 mph. The 'new' 928 will feature the same drive-train layout. If we were to believe this was the 'new 928' then we would anticipate the two cars would share more than 60% of their components, including engines, transmission, and suspension with a possible debut in 2012.

Of course, we don’t think this is the new 928 and if you think that there’s more to this sketch than meets the eye, then more power to you. But until somebody from Stuttgart offers us any sort of hint on a possible future model that’s based on this drawing, we’re going to err on the side of prudence and caution and call this what it really is: a drawing and nothing more than that. In the understatement of the year – so far, at least - the Porsche Panamera has been a remarkable success for the folks of Stuttgart. Yet despite that, there’s talk that Porsche may just have yet another ace up their sleeve in the form of a new 928, which, if true, should give them a model that can line up pretty well against the Ferrari 599 GTB and the Aston Martin DB9. And as with any other car that’s supposedly on the pipe line, a member of Teamspeed decided to do a rendering of a new 928 based on the Panamera, coupled with a few elements from the old 928.

There’s still no confirmation from Porsche regarding the car so as of now, all of this is merely rendered speculation, no pun intended. Check it out and see if it’s up to par to the high standards of the original Porsche 928. Fresh off the success of the all new Porsche Panamera, it is rumored that the German sports car builder is working on a larger GT Coupe that would serve as a spiritual successor of the classic 928 along the same lines as the new four door Grand Tourer. We have already heard Porsche’s design chief, Michael Maur, confirmed that he’s working on a new coupe moving away from models like the compact Cayman and Boxster in a direction towards larger sports cars like the 911 and Cayenne with the new 928 fitting in perfectly to compete with high end luxury cars like the Continental GT. The new car will most likely be built upon the Panamera’s platform with a shorter wheelbase offering more room in the rear as well as additional trunk space compared to the 911.

It’s the return of the rumor of a new Porsche 928. Ever since the four-door Panamera had been a rumor, there were coupe rumors to go with it. Now the Porsche’s first sedan is about ready to hit the streets, while rumors of a coupe has slowly faded away. Now the coupe buzz is back, and this one’s pretty credible. At a press meeting about the Panamera, Porsche’s design chief Michael Maur confirmed that he’s working on a new coupe project. It seems that sales at Porsche are moving away from entry level/smaller cars such as the Cayman and Boxster and are moving towards the larger vehicles like the 911 and Cayenne.

So is looking to place another large car in its lineup. While the Panamera will likely be the base of the new 928, there is no word yet on how different the sheetmetal will be. The original 928 was designed to replace the 911, but history had other plans for it. The 911 proved evergreen, which gave the 928 an awkward and doomed place in Porsche’s lineup.

This time if the 928 comes back, it will be for 911 owners who need more room, and as a direct competitor to more luxurious sportscars like Bentley’s Continental GT.

Club Sport (CS) and GT versions followed while the final four model years saw the 928 sold as a GTS only. While it wasn’t as popular as the 911, the 928 developed a following, and it’s now considered a classic.

So polish up your Porsche! Rain or shine, we look forward to seeing you and your family as we celebrate forty years of HVR. Cheers and Happy Driving! This sent in by Adam Wright of the Unobtanium Porsche restorer in Ravena, NY: Unobtanium Open House Saturday, September 5th, 2015 12pm to 3pm I want to invite everyone out to our 2nd Annual Open House at our location in scenic Ravena, NY. We have finally moved our whole operation from the old leather factory in Gloversville, NY. Cars that have not seen the light of day in over a decade are now back in the sun.

There is plenty of parking that is super safe as the Police Station is the only other building on our dead end street. We encourage everyone to bring their Porsche, but if you can't please bring yourself and a few friends. We will have food and drink on hand and the Unobtanium crew of Adam, Matt, and Big John will be there to answer any questions. We might even talk Big John into doing some feats of great strength!

The warehouse normally has 15-20 early Porsche projects to look at as well as shelf after shelf of parts for all your restoration needs. You won't be disappointed if Porsche 356's and early 9 series cars are your passion. In addition, some of our personal collection will be on hand like the 356 A Coupe that won Daytona in 1966. You can also check out the latest shop project - we are converting a 914-6 into a 904 using a real 904 body!

We are hoping Wray from Proshaper can come out with the latest metal he is shaping for our aluminum 550 Spyder project. His website is if you want to check out his work. If you want to see pics from last year's open house you can check them out on our blog: Last year we lined the street in so many Porsches you would have thought you were in Germany! The shop address is: Unobtanium 14 W Shore St.

Looks like a great time! I need to have feedback for a headcount of those interested in a visit to the Storm King Art Center on Sunday the 30th of June. After the tour we will drive to the new Cafe at Orange County Choppers which has a nice reasonably priced menu and will hold a group of tables for us. Pat & I visited on Sat. And were very pleased with the venue.

Cost of the tour is $12 for adult, $10 for seniors and $8 for students with i.d. If we get enough people we will be assigned a docent to conduct the tour. Around 10 members journeyed down to the Paterek Bros. Restorations as per invitation issued after his appearance and presentation at our annual banquet.

This was the annual Open House that the brothers hold and most of the attendees were members of Northern New Jersey region so it was nice that our region was included this year and we wish to thank John for the hospitality. Snacks were provided and visitors could tour the shop 'complex' in Chatham, NJ. A number of restored and in progress cars were on display. John also went over some of the history of the cars on display and showed some of the things they find when stripping down a car for restoration. A of the event have been posted on our gallery. Please if you have them. Frank Staron has volunteered to lead a group from the park & drive area on the East side of the Kingston/Rhinebeck Bridge.

They will leave Sat. Area is on right hand side of road after you go through the first traffic light after crossing the bridge. Let us know if you would like to join this group so Frank knows who will be coming:. If anyone in the more southern parts of the region would like to volunteer to lead a group up to Lime Rock Park, please let us know where and when your contingent will rally from. Thanks and see you at the Advanced Auto tent in the lower paddock area.

If you want to travel as a group, at least somewhat what with the traffic on I-287, we will leave the Ramapo rest area off the thruway at 10am for the hour trip down to the shop. This is the last rest area before the cut off for I-287 south exit.

Park as far from the bldg. As possible back near the trucks.

I will repeat the address for you to use your GPS device or for Mapquest. I recommend this as we may get separated on the drive down as traffic can be heavy. Probably traveling in groups of less than five makes the most sense as I am sure we will become somewhat separated with traffic patterns. The correct address for the shop is 13 Commerce St. 33 Minton Ave is John's home addy. His directions read as follows: I-287 to NJ rte 24 east.

Exit 7 off of 24 onto River Rd. Go 1.2 miles and turn right onto Commerce st. When the road curves.

Event opens at 1 pm. If you would just rather meet us there that would be fine too. Maybe we have a few members that may want to take a different route down so I recommend you make arrangements for time and place to meet. I imagine we will return piece meal as some may have other pressing business later in the day. Light snacks will be served at NO COST! But you will not get a full lunch so be advised. Do respond to me directly at: and NOT to JODI!!!

There are 26 already on the list to go so if you already let me know you don't have to reply again unless you know you can no longer make it. Now let us hope all our trips this year will be on dry pavement as we have been so lucky in the past. Until that time.

We will leave for the hour trip to Brookfield CT to view the Porsche collection of Dr. & Alice Gish, JLG Autocrib. The 'Girls', as Alice puts it, will be open for our inspection in groups of 25. I need to develop a roster of attendees for this event so if you are interested please get back to me at: I encourage you to visit to get a preview of what we will be experiencing.

We will rally for the trip at the 84 diner, just off I-84, exit 12, 853 rte 52. You can see the diner on the right as you exit if coming across the Newburgh-Beacon bridge.

If you are up early come and have breakfast before we head out. I will post the address of JLG Autocrib as soon as I have it.

At this point I don't know what kind of lunch arrangements we will have, if any. If something develops I will keep you informed. So now I just need to know who would like to be part of this event. Our HVR logo has been updated to a new logo designed by Allen Littlefield and Mark Browne, and approved by the board. Annual Picnic/Concours Update Posted on August 27th, 2012 1:04 PM by Allen Littlefield If you haven't already notified me and plan on coming to our annual picnic and Peoples Choice concours on Sept. 23, a SUNDAY, please do as soon as you are certain you will be able to attend. This roster helps with the food planning, etc. It will be held in the James Baird St. Park in Dutchess county at the Eagles Nest restaurant. There is a convenient exit off the Taconic Parkway onto the Baird park grounds.

It will start at 12 noon and go until??? Below is the menu for the event and it is totally on the Hudson Valley Region, i.e., free food!!! To say nothing of the camaraderie of Porsche ownership. We again will have trophies for the top three Peoples Choice concour winners. This is where you vote for what you think are the top three cars in attendance at the event.

In the Past, region member Bart Dyshuck, has produced the trophies for the region and we hope he will do so again. Voting will be restricted to both member and assoc members only.

You can't bring all of your kids to vote for you.!!! The facility has indoor (real!) restrooms and a full bar. We will be under the large semi permanent event tent just behind the Eagles Nest restaurant that enjoys a nice overlook due west over the golf course. I encourage members from various parts of our region to plan group drives to the event. Pat & I will be joining with the Eurichs at the Eagles Nest early to set things up so we will not be leading a group drive from the New Paltz area.

Just post where you will be leaving from and see if any members would like to join wit.
